Investors, funders, and partners all read the same way: quickly, skeptically, and looking for a reason to stop. A business plan or pitch deck earns its next page by being clear about three things — the problem, why you, and what happens with the money.

Mission-driven ventures have a harder version of this job. You’re making two cases at once: the impact case and the viability case, and weakness in either sinks both. My background covers the pair — 9 years in nonprofit fundraising for the impact side, and technical writing rigorous enough for a Department of Energy grant on the viability side.

The engagement produces documents that work standalone: a plan a skeptical reader can follow without you in the room, a deck that carries your voice when you’re not presenting it, and an executive summary that gets the second meeting.

How we’ll work together

  1. To — Structure first: the argument, the evidence, and the order that makes both land.
  2. Through — Drafting and pressure-testing — every claim challenged before a funder challenges it.
  3. Beyond — Executive summaries, one-pagers, and updates as the venture grows into its plan.

Good questions

About business plans & pitch decks

You're a writing consultant — why business plans?
Because a business plan is a persuasion document, and persuasion is writing. Your numbers make the case possible; the narrative makes it land. I've supported everything from local social enterprises to an edtech startup's Department of Energy grant deliverables.
Can you work from our messy draft?
Messy drafts are the raw material of my whole profession. Bring the draft, the spreadsheet, and the founder — I'll bring the structure.
Do you build the deck design too?
I own the narrative, structure, and copy — the part that determines whether the deck works. Design-wise I deliver clean, presentable slides and collaborate with your designer when the stakes warrant polish.
What about mission and vision statements?
Included where they belong — a plan or deck built on a fuzzy mission wobbles. If yours needs work, we fix it first; it's often the highest-leverage hour of the engagement.
